Description

Gene Allison 1957 Clarksville, Tennessee Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising R&B star Gene Allison playing at the V.F.W. (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Club in Clarksville, Tennessee on Monday night, September 30, 1957. This blue & black concert poster was made by the Hatch Show Print company out of Nashville, TN.

Not long after this appearance, Gene had three Top 20 R&B hits on Vee-Jay Records: "You Can Make It If You Try" this year, and "Have Faith" and "Everything Will Be Alright" in 1958.

Measures slightly under 14" x 22" and grades to restored Very Good condition. Poster was once quarter-folded down to fit into Hatch Show Print's filing cabinets. Originally, this left significant creasing on the front which broke color, including through the artist's forehead and "Gene." But it's been expertly restored to great effect, with most remnants now visible only when tilted at an angle. It truly is a snazzy, professional resto job.

There's also a one-inch vertical tear at the top edge, going into the "C" of "Club," and a crease extending out of it to the right.

On the verso, the creases were reinforced with some clear material of unknown origin, but it does the job beautifully. The board still flexes a tiny bit but is now protected from any further damage along the creases. Also, "57" is written in pen in one of the corners, presumably by Hatch.
