Description
Ewan McGregor "Obi-Wan Kenobi" Training Lightsaber Hilt from Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace (TCF, 1999). Original lightsaber hilt prop constructed of cast resin and expertly studio painted solid black with an integral, threaded metal rod embedded at the top for the FX blade to screw onto. The corresponding blade is made of tooled aluminum painted florescent green and covered with a clear plastic heat-shrink material - a detail only present on true dueling lightsaber props from this film. All of the buttons and pommel cubes typically present on commonly seen stunt versions of "Obi-Wan's" (McGregor) lightsaber hilt have been sanded down to ensure nothing will catch-on or harm the actor's hands while executing the spins and powerful blade-on-blade stage combat in the full-speed stunt sequences. This is one of only two dueling lightsaber props used by McGregor during the production of Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace known to be in private hands. When George Lucas announced he was returning to "a galaxy far, far away" for a new prequel trilogy of Star Wars franchise starring a young "Obi-Wan Kenobi," he promised fans "a Jedi in his prime, fighting in the prime of the Jedi." To deliver on his vision of much more energetic Jedi lightsaber combat than seen in the previous films, Lucas brought veteran stunt performer Nick Gillard on board to choreograph a new style of martial arts and sword fighting. Lucas also insisted his stars do as much of their own fighting on screen as possible. So for weeks preceding filming, McGregor ("Obi-Wan Kenobi"), Liam Neeson ("Qui-Gon Jinn"), Ray Park ("Darth Maul"), and Nick Gillard trained extensively to master the lightning-fast choreography. Notorious for demanding "faster and more intense" action on his film sets, George Lucas got exactly what he was looking for from Nick Gillard and the three-way lightsaber battle acting as the climax of Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace would become known as the most iconic scene from the new trilogy of films. This 2" x 2" x 49"dueling lightsaber prop was used exclusively by McGregor during training for his role as "Obi-Wan" in Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, and has been signed on the blade by the film's stunt coordinator and lightsaber choreographer, Nick Gillard. In Good overall condition with some expected impact marks on the blade from dueling, and production wear on the hilt.
