Mel Gibson "William Wallace" Hero Screen Matched Shield from the Battle of Stirling in Braveheart (Paramount, 1995). Original screen matched shield carried by Wallace (Gibson) in the Battle of Stirling. Gibson won the 1996 Academy Award for Best Director and Best Picture. Constructed of wood with steel dome mounted at center with a rawhide perimeter. The natural woodgrain, position of knots, arrow battle damage and detached edge of rawhide trim positively match on screen. Shield measures 24.5" in diameter x 4.5". An extraordinary hero prop carried by William Wallace in a major battle in the film. Exhibiting production distress and handling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
