Description

Woody Allen Inscribed Early Working Draft Script for Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex (United Artists, 1972). Vintage original studio bound and bradded early draft screenplay by Woody Allen for his film Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex*But Were Afraid to Ask (incorrectly imprinted on studio cover as "...You've..."). Mimeographed (157) pages, numbered serially for individual sequences. An early working-draft screenplay that preceded the seven-sequence final film version, with the version offered here including four additional episodes on such taboo and politically incorrect subjects as masturbation, an auto-erotic encounter between The Lone Ranger and Tonto, and a tryst involving a lady tourist in Rome and the Pope. It takes little imagination to understand why these additional scenes were exorcised from the finished film. This example is inscribed by Woody Allen to movie critic and bibliophile Clive Hirschhorn, and is remarkably scarce on two counts: the presence of Allen's inscription, as he is an unusually reluctant signer of his own ephemeral work, plus the lamentable fact that the excised scenes are nowhere else but here to be encountered and studied. Also laid in to front is a printed photo postcard of Allen, signed neatly by him as well. Eggplant-color leatherette cover is reasonably well handled, with creasing at corners and along spine, color flaking all around perimeter front and back, and rear cover bears a 6.5" diagonal crease. Interior exhibits only trace handling with some age toning, and a faint type-ink fingerprint on title page. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
