CinemaScope Movie Theater Sign (Circa 1950s-60s). Vintage original CinemaScope movie theatre sign constructed of translucent red, blue, and green vacuum-formed plastic letters, fastened into rectangular aluminum-rail armature with formed metal hanging hooks at side margins. CinemaScope is an anamorphic lens series used from 1953 to 1967, which effectively doubled the typical decades-long 4:3 projected-screen aspect ratio to a panoramic "Widescreen" 2.35:1, as a theatrical weapon against the recent advent of home television viewing. Bausch & Lomb won an Academy Award for its development of the CinemaScope lens. The frame measures 24.5" x 10.25", and the letters stand 4.5" within the rails. Exhibits minor expected age and handling. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
