Description
Terry Southern, "Peace Symbol" Necklace Gifted to Southern by The Beatles with Photo of Southern, Ringo Star and Peter Sellers. Vintage original peace symbol necklace gifted to Terry Southern by The Beatles, featuring a soldered metal pendant measuring approx. 2.25" x 1.25", attached to a 17" cloth cord with a simple clasp. Included is (1) reproduced photograph of Southern, wearing the necklace, with Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr, mounted on a 10" x 14" artist's board. Beyond his legacy as a countercultural icon, novelist, screenwriter, and satirist, Terry Southern was immortalized by The Beatles with his inclusion on the cover of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", where his image appears between poet Dylan Thomas and comedian Lenny Bruce. Southern's connection with the band-particularly Ringo Starr-extended beyond this tribute. Ringo starred in the film adaptation of Candy and later co-starred in The Magic Christian, based on Southern's novel. The two remained close friends throughout the 1970s and developed other film projects together, including Southern's infamous but unrealized Blue Movie. The included photo, taken in London in 1969 by William Claxton, shows Southern, Starr, and Sellers on the streets of London during production of The Magic Christian, a book Sellers once called his favorite. The photo exhibits bumped corners and fading. The necklace exhibits slight fraying to the cord near the clasp and oxidation to the pendant from age. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
