Neil Welliver, Portrait of Nile Southern (1967), Gifted to Carol and Nile Southern. Vintage original oil on canvas by Neil Welliver, depicting a young Nile Southern standing barefoot in front of a hedge with the family dog, a black lab named Bowser. Known for his 1960s Expressionist and Naturalist work, Welliver uses bold green, black, and blue brushstrokes, with the boy rendered in pale flesh tones and the dog in black with green undertones. This is the second painting he gifted to writer Terry Southern, this one featuring his son Nile-named in the lower left corner-emphasizing the personal connection. Welliver titled the painting in the lower left, "Nile Southern '67" with his distinctive signature on the frame's lower right. Measures 47" x 56.5" in its wooden frame.
