Modified 1961 "Herbie" Volkswagen Beetle from Herbie Goes Bananas (Disney, 1980). This is not just a car, but a full-fledged character! Vintage ivory 1961 Beetle with signature blue and red stripes and "53" racecar meatballs on the doors and front bonnet. The modifications to the vehicle to create the Herbie magic involve a second linked gearshift lever mounted in the padded rear section of the car where the back seat was removed. The operator could shift gears from the back position and the front gearshift lever appears to move by itself! Car has the four-cylinder air-cooled engine with manual transmission (mechanicals untested). Exhibits production wear including scattered dents and dings on passenger side of hood and fenders, as well as dings along aluminum side trim and some pitting to chrome elements. Loose carpet on passenger footwell and lacking front bonnet and engine compartment lid latches (bonnet and engine compartment lid rub respective bumpers when lifted). Recent cosmetic crease on hood and fenders has been restored to the original condition of the car. Battery is mounted behind passenger seat. This instantly recognizable character car presents very well. Measures 56" x 60" x 160". Sold without title on Bill of Sale only.
