Description

Jackie Wilson 1969 Greensboro, NC Globe Day-Glo Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising the great Jackie Wilson performing at the Castaways in Greensboro, North Carolina on Sunday evening, February 23, 1969. Just a brilliant and simple design that works on all levels and is a late-60's Globe Poster mini-masterpiece. Jackie's face dead center, huge and great type font for his name, bright Day-Glo orange color, and oh those two song titles mixed right in there... his first-ever big hit from 1958, "Lonely Teardrops," and his last-ever big hit from 1967, "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher" (abbreviated for the poster - and it works). What more could a Jackie fan ask for?

And remember, no less than Berry Gordy Jr. of Motown Records called Wilson the best, most dynamic stage vocalist he'd ever seen in his life. And he founded Motown! What a talent Wilson was. This piece is a small monster and should be thoroughly loved by someone. First-time Heritage offering, and we've never seen another one, even from another city; this is it. Measures 14" x 24 3/8" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Upper left corner has dinging & ruffling, with the top layer of paper starting to peel off a little. Upper right edge has edge bumping and a very benign crease that starts above the last "A" and runs off the side margin, barely noticeable. An even more invisible crease extends in the white down through the "3." Bottom corners also bumped with tiny creasing. The black box of "Orchestra" has some surface scuffing, scratching and wear. Poster has a small amount of grime from storage over the years, and there's a small brown mark in the "N" of "Wilson." General toning throughout.
