Description
Vintage Articulating Jackie Gleason Puppet (ca. 1950s). Vintage original articulating puppet resembling Jackie Gleason, constructed of a carved wooden body with threaded and ball-jointed metal articulating arms and legs and black-painted wooden shoes, resin hands, and oversized resin head, featuring glued-on hair and facial features made of thick black thread and clothes constructed of cloth and canvas fabrics, including multi-color striped jacket, teal blue vest, red tie, gray pants, and white shirt. Face, hands, and feet are hand-painted. Jackie Gleason was a comedian, writer, television personality, and avid golfer whose career spanned the second-half of the 20th century and included his role on the television show he created, The Honeymooners (CBS TV, 1955-1956). Puppet resembles bespoke articulating dolls of the 1940s and '50s and measures approx. 27" x 12". Exhibits handling, age, and wear commensurate with objects of this age, including chipped paint, stains and soiling to the clothing, and other expected blemishes while still retaining a vibrant vintage appeal.
