Description
HIGHLY INFLUENTIAL PUNK- AND GLAM-ROCK PIONEERS
New York Dolls 1973 Baltimore Three-Feet-Tall Concert
Poster. A spectacular early-70's towering cardboard window card
advertising a concert by the New York Dolls, featuring members
David Johansen, Sylvain Sylvain and Johnny Thunders. The show took
place Wednesday, November 14, 1973 at the Hollywood Palace in
Baltimore, MD.The Dolls were rebels any way you looked at it, so it's no surprise that Creem magazine voted them both the best and worst new band of 1973. Even their Globe poster here bucks the norm: the company's trademark Day-Glo florescent ink was used in just one little box way down in the corner... where the date & time were given.
The great photo of the band continues the theme, with Johansen holding up his dukes like he's ready to fight, while at the same time everyone's decked out in full facial makeup and wigs. "Direct From TV Shows... 'Midnite [sic] Special' and 'In Concert,'" adds to the fun.
Measures 22" x 35" and in Very Good Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: Renaud and Junction was the opening act, led by Baltimore native Jean Albert Renaud, a musician, model and internationally recognized horseman. Simply put, "You'll have to see this freak-out to believe it!"
Condition details: Light water staining in a couple of places, centered on "See / Believe" and in the lower left area and up into "Freak-Out." Also a light one visible above the ticket information. Tack holes in the upper two corners, with some paper loss in the left one; two staple holes in the white, about 1/3 of the way down (to the left of "Direct" and under "Concert"); and a one-inch tear in the lower corner's white margin. A couple of red-ink squiggles in upper right corner area. A bit of surface creasing throughout, especially around "Hollywood." Lower left Day-Glo orange venue box suffers from a little light printing, scratching and surface creasing. Verso has "Creston Bruces Posters" written in marker.
