Description
Janis Joplin, Early Joe Cocker 1969 Baltimore, MD Concert Poster. An original advertising poster for Janis Joplin, the Butterfield Blues Band and Joe Cocker & the Grease Band playing at the Baltimore Civic Center on Sunday evening, December 7, 1969. The attractive pink & magenta design shows a large close-up photo of a smiling Janis in a fun dot-pattern.Janis was touring off the only solo album she ever released while alive, the Top 5 I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! Paul Butterfield also had a new album just out on Elektra Records, Keep on Moving. And "Special Guest Attraction" Joe Cocker had run the course with his debut album, With a Little Help from My Friends, and had just released his sophomore effort, Joe Cocker! (with "Something," "Delta Lady" and "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window").
Measures 14 1/8" x 20" and grades to Very Good Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: Poster has a couple of significant surface creases plus some scuffing and other flaws to its magenta surface, many of which are visible only when you tilt the poster at an angle to the light. An inch below the "MD" in "Silver Spring, MD," there was a small surface scrape that was filled in with a closely matching color. There's a 6 ½" horizontal crease which goes through "Special," "Cocker" and "Jerry" but which doesn't break color. There's a two-inch vertical crease on the magenta of Janis' cheek, going directly up from "Ave." There's a 3 ½" horizontal crease on her other, pink cheek. There's also a 3" vertical crease coming down from the poster's top edge through the pink dot pattern of her forehead. We found about 18 small and tiny pinholes or staple holes scattered through the upper and lower portions of the poster, many of which you can detect only by holding the poster up to the light. And otherwise just general surface handling and markings from initial usage and then storage for decades.
