Description
Boeing, Boeing & The Oscar (Paramount, 1965/1966), Elke Sommer"Kay Bergdahl" and Dany Saval "Jacqueline" Pair of Costume Sketches by Edith Head. Vintage original pair of Boeing, Boeing & The Oscar (1965/1966) costume sketches accomplished in gouache, graphite and ink on 14" x 16.75" artist's paper by legendary costume designer Edith Head. One features Kay Bergdahl (Elke Sommer) in The Oscar, wearing a 1960's modern pantsuit while talking on the phone. The on-screen version is merely a patterned top without slacks creating a sexier image. The second illustration is of Jacqueline Grieux (Dany Saval) in Boeing, Boeing wearing a traditional pink peignoir. The on-screen version is a 'teddy' which is shorter and sexier. Both changes signify the move to more modern designs which were becoming popular in the mid-1960s. Edith Head appears as herself in The Oscar as Elke Sommer's boss. The Dany Saval sketch has studio information on the reverse side, including production stamps and approvals. Each is signed by Head in lower right. Head was nominated for an Oscar for her design work on The Oscar, though sadly not for her acting performance. Both sketches exhibit age and production handling.
