Description

Marnie (Universal, 1964), Tippi Hedren "Marnie Edgar Rutland" Pair of Shipboard Honeymoon Dinner Outfit Costume Sketches by Edith Head. Vintage original pair of Marnie (1964) costume sketches accomplished in gouache, graphite and ink on 14" x 16.5" and 14" x 16.75" artist's paper by legendary costume designer Edith Head. These are two variations of an outfit worn by Marnie Edgar Rutland (Tippi Hedren) during her honeymoon, while dining with her husband, Mark (Sean Connery), aboard a ship. One version is black and has "Tippi Hedren" written in the upper right corner, plus a production note that says "ok. for Tippi white". Edith Head's signature is at the bottom left corner. The second sketch has changed the outfit's color to white and has production notes identifying the scene "mark scene and part at dinner table" and other production notations, though is unsigned. This latter sketch perfectly matches the on-screen version worn by Hedren. Exhibiting age and production handling, somewhat more so to the white version, which bears moderate handling soiling around perimeter. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
