The Ten Commandments (Paramount, 1956), Charlton Heston "Moses" Ten Commandments Tablets. Vintage original Ten Commandments prop tablets, "written with the finger of God," measuring 23.5" x 12" x 1.25" and constructed of richly-hewn fiberglass over a wooden core. The "etching" is accomplished in an early Canaanite script practiced in the late Bronze Age (ca. 13th century B.C.) and conforming to Moses' era. "Left side facing plaque" and "Right side facing plaque" are handwritten in black ink on the verso of each tablet. Paramount Studios' scenic artist A.J. Ciraolo made them to appear slightly irregular with molded chips and dings and then hand-applied paint speckling to resemble the red granite of Mount Sinai - one of Cecil B. DeMille's key requirements. The Ten Commandments, DeMille's greatest film, and his last, has joined the pantheon of epic films revered from generation to generation. These pieces retain the beautiful red and black-speckled patina of the Sinai-inspired granite. Exhibiting scuffs and scratches from production. Obtained from Christie's East, June 28, 1995, Lot #58.
