Description
Citizen Kane (RKO, 1941), Style A One Sheet Poster on Linen. Original one sheet, 27" x 41" linen backed poster. Not only was Citizen Kane Orson Welles' directorial debut, but he also produced, co-wrote, and played the title role, Charles Foster Kane. The story begins as the most powerful newspaper magnate in the world, Charles Foster Kane, dies uttering an enigmatic final word "Rosebud." This mystery prompts a newsreel producer to send out a reporter in hopes of finding the meaning behind the famous man's dying thought. The film almost never saw the light of day, however, when it was discovered that the plot was loosely based on the life of publisher William Randolph Hearst. The other Hollywood studios were so afraid of Hearst that they offered to buy the prints from RKO and destroy them forever! Thankfully, this plan was unsuccessful, leaving Citizen Kane intact, to take its place in film history. Prior to restoration, the poster showed fold wear with extra creases and tears, and small bits of surface paper loss and slight separation along the edges. The borders and some of the white background has been airbrushed. Fine/Very Fine. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.Auction Info
