Star Trek: The Original Series (Paramount TV, 1966-1969), William Shatner "Captain Kirk" Starfleet Uniform Ensemble. Vintage original signature (2) piece Starship Captain's uniform consisting of (1) golden honey-colored long-sleeved velour tunic with cross-weave black polyester collar, gold lamé applique rank braids around cuffs, Command insignia patch affixed to left chest, and unique left side collar-to-waist hidden zipper closure with hook-and-eye collar fastening, and (1) pair of black Dacron with silver sparkle fabric pants, featuring 2- front waist pockets and zipper and hook-and-eye front closure and heavily reinforced black polyester lining, for safety of the actor during fight and action sequences. Handwritten on the interior back waistband, "WS Shatner (stunt)". This uniform is attributed to the Season 2 Episode, "The Deadly Years", when Captain Kirk (Shatner) and crew are exposed to radiation, causing them to age rapidly. In addition to wearing considerable makeup to simulate rapid aging, the actors were fitted with slightly oversized tunics to provide the illusion of weight loss and frailty. This tunic is featured in the book Star Trek Costumes by Paula M. Block and Terry J. Erdmann (Insight Editions, 2015), and has been held in the collections of two major collectors of Hollywood memorabilia, Greg Jein and Dr. Stewart Berkowitz. Exhibiting expected age, production wear, some rubbing to gold laminate on tunic braids, minor soiling and discoloration to arms. Stewart took great pride in displaying his collection and had many custom-built mannequins in the likeness of the character made for his costumes. This lot includes one of those mannequins, which is in a seated position and in used and well-loved condition and will require special shipping.
