Description

Laurel and Hardy Lido in Paris Bound Album (ca. 1947). Vintage original 15" x 12.5" x 2.5" custom burgundy leather-bound album of the highest quality, documenting Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy's exclusive 1947 engagement at the Lido Theater in France. The over 65-page volume features programs, documents, letters, newspapers, reviews, and many photographs-many pages retaining onion-skin protective overlays with titles. Included is a typed letter on "Laurel and Hardy Feature Productions" letterhead, dated 13th November 1947, in which the duo terminate their agreement, signed by both comedians. In the letter, they regretfully decline to fulfill the contract, stating that "we cannot do to the best of our ability in these surroundings" and emphasizing their "worldwide reputation," which they "do not wish to destroy by appearing to disadvantage." Beloved for their masterful slapstick comedy, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy starred in 107 films together, including 32 silent shorts, 40 sound shorts, and 23 full-length features. Their iconic contrast-Laurel's tall, skinny, childlike persona paired with Hardy's squat, pompous demeanor-made them one of the most enduring comedy teams in entertainment history. Their timeless appeal was encapsulated in Hardy's famous line: "Well, here's another nice mess you've gotten me into!" All pieces exhibit age, toning, and handling, with chipping to some of the overlays. One photo is no longer present. Comes with full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services
