Description
Casablanca (Warner Bros., 1942), Humphrey Bogart Rare Handwritten Signed Chess Move for a Game which Began During Filming. Vintage original Humphrey Bogart handwritten and signed personal chess move penned on a postcard (postmarked March 27, 1943) sent to Irving Kovner of Brooklyn, N.Y. Measuring approx. 3.25" x 5.5" the card is handwritten in ink by Bogart and reads "Dear Irving / 17 - kt x kt / 18 B x kt R - Q1 / 19 ? / Regards / H Bogart". In the opening scene of Casablanca, Rick Blaine (Humphrey Bogart), proprietor of Rick's Cafe Américain, is shown seated with a chess game in progress on the board before him. The game that was set up on the chess board was a real game Bogart was playing with Irving Kovner, the brother of a Warner Brothers Studio employee. The chess game between Bogart and Kovner continued following the production, as Casablanca was released nationwide in the U.S. on January 23, 1943. Exhibits toning, age and handling.
