Description
Personal book-bound final shooting script for The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit (20th Century-Fox, 1956). Vintage original 168-page revised shooting final script dated December 12, 1955 with blue revision pages dated to January 15, 1956. Screenplay by Nunnally Johnson adapted from the novel by Sloan Wilson. The present script was custom-bound for Mr. Peck's personal library in full tan crushed Morocco with title and Mr. Peck's name stamped in gilt on the front board. Spine stamped in gilt with five raised bands. Marbled endpapers. With 19 gelatin silver glossy 7" x 9" production stills and portraits from the film tipped to pages bound-in. Spine darkened with some surface abrasions near the foot and tiny tear at the head. Boards with light scuffs and tiny chip near the upper left edge. Very Good. The film was directed by Nunnally Johnson and co-starred Jennifer Jones. In this surprisingly complex role, Peck plays an ex-soldier, married, with three children and is haunted by his memories of his time fighting in Italy in World War II. Against this backdrop of a middle-class marriage, the film explored the increased corporate organization of American society, which reduced white collar workers to gray-suited "yes men", with less and less control over what they could say and do in the corporate business environment. The film was accepted at the 1956 Cannes Film Festival.
Please note that while not a studio presentation script, the present script was custom bound for Mr. Peck's personal library and features his name stamped in gilt on the front board.
