Description

The Six Million Dollar Man Model Kits & Ben Cooper Halloween Costume Lot of 6 (Fun Dimensions / Ben Cooper, 1974-75). Few television properties captured the optimism and anxiety of 1970s technology quite like The Six Million Dollar Man, a series that transformed Cold War science fiction into mainstream family entertainment. Airing at the height of America's fascination with space exploration, biomechanics, and government secrecy, the show made Steve Austin a cultural touchstone, equal parts action hero and technological marvel. Licensed products quickly followed, with Fun Dimensions' model kits translating the series' bionic spectacle into hands-on, imaginative play, while Ben Cooper's Halloween costumes allowed young fans to step directly into the role of a super-powered operative. Together, these items reflect how deeply the character permeated popular culture during the show's peak years. The condition of the model kits is consistent with mild to moderate wear overall, with variation between boxes. The edges and corners show light scuffing and areas of mild crushing. All model kit boxes remain sealed in their original factory cellophane, though the tight shrink wrap has caused moderate surface pressure, resulting in creasing to the box faces. The Ben Cooper costume box exhibits heavier wear by comparison, with pronounced scuffing, dents, and crushing to the edges and corners. The box faces show significant creasing, veining, tears, and deformation. The contents are unused, though the mask shows mild paint rub and crushing from prolonged contact with the box. The display window shows significant wear, including scuffing, staining, and detachment along the left side. The combination of The Six Million Dollar Man kits and costumes illustrates the full spectrum of 1970s licensed merchandising, from careful, assembly-based play to single-night transformation and fantasy. Sealed model kits from this era remain increasingly difficult to find, especially in multiples, while Ben Cooper costume boxes are notorious for surviving in compromised condition. Together, these pieces evoke the excitement of a time when bionics promised a better future and Saturday nights belonged to Steve Austin. This grouping offers collectors a multifaceted snapshot of the franchise at its commercial height, capturing both its enduring appeal and the ephemera that once brought it to life.
