Few playthings capture post-war childhood like Mattel's Chatty Cathy-the first pull-string doll to "speak" more than a dozen phrases and a darling of baby-boomer holiday catalogs. This untouched blonde example remains factory-fresh beneath its clear head shroud, paper wrist tag, blue gingham dress, and lace-trimmed white overblouse, exactly as she left Hawthorne's assembly line in 1959. The signature pink box still resides inside its Mattel brown mailer, preserving the bright graphics; only moderate shelf wear betrays six-plus decades of attic slumber, including soft edges, a few corner rubs, and creasing on several panels, including a horizontal crease that runs across the front panel. This Chatty Cathy offers collectors a rare chance to showcase a pristine cornerstone of mid-century doll history before she says her last goodbye.
