Joe's mid-1980s Sears-exclusive lineup, the Cobra Sentry and Missile System (S.M.S.) was released in 1985 as a specialized heavy-weapon platform tailored for the newly introduced Crimson Guard-Cobra's elite, crimson-uniformed troopers. Few items stoked playground envy like the Sentry, as this set remains among the most sought-after exclusives in the vintage G.I. Joe universe. Designed to bolster any Cobra stronghold, it paired a rotating twin-rack launcher with a sensor console and working tow hook, echoing the on-screen weaponry that kept G.I. Joe on its heels. The S.M.S. cleverly repurposed two earlier G.I. Joe molds, recast in dramatic black and crimson to match the elite unit's color scheme.
