Planet of the Apes Astronaut 8-Inch Figure (Mego, 1974). In 1974, at the height of Planet of the Apes mania, Mego released the Astronaut 8-inch figure as part of its groundbreaking action figure line. Capturing the adventurous spirit of the human characters who crash-land on the mysterious ape-dominated planet, this figure is dressed in a sleek silver zippered blue spacesuit, complete with black boots and a removable gray helmet with a transparent blue visor. The figure is sealed an original bright red unpunched card that displays handling wear along the edges and corners, with creasing and surface folding in the lower left corner. The protective bubble shows crushing along the top, with creasing, scratching, and scuffing throughout. The left side is dented, and there is surface chipping on the bottom of the card beneath the bubble. The back of the card features additional creasing in the upper center, as well as in the upper and lower left corners. As part of Mego's groundbreaking Planet of the Apes line, the Astronaut figure remains a cherished piece of sci-fi and toy history.
