Description

Buck Rogers Disintegrator Pistol XZ-38 with Box (Daisy, 1935). A dazzling artifact from the dawn of sci-fi toy history, this Buck Rogers Disintegrator Pistol XZ-38 was released by Daisy Manufacturing Co. in 1935 and holds the honor of being the very first toy ray gun ever produced. Inspired by the wildly popular Buck Rogers comic strip and radio serial, this pressed steel zap-gun captured the imagination of Depression-era kids dreaming of space-age adventure. Measuring approximately 9.75 inches long, this version features a copper-toned finish and retains its bold, futuristic profile complete with sculpted ridges and a lightning-bolt motif on the barrel. The toy shows handling wear, with scratching and scuffing throughout, particularly around the front nozzle. The bottom of the gun has slightly separated below the trigger extending to the base of the handle, though it still displays well. It's accompanied by its original box, which shows edge and corner wear, corner bends, and horizontal creasing along the top edge of the front panel, as well as throughout the side panels. A small tear appears in the bottom panel's left corner, and the back panel has added creasing and a center dent. Despite its wear, this set remains a milestone piece in toy history, celebrating a time when ray guns ruled and intergalactic imagination took flight.
