Issued by Topps in 1966, the Batman Bat Laffs trading card set contains photographic stills that were taken directly from the 20th Century Fox theatrical movie Batman: The Movie, released in July 1966. This set reflect the tongue-in-cheek style that defined 1960s "Batmania." The fronts display colorful images of Batman, Robin, and their rogue's gallery-including The Joker, The Penguin, Catwoman, and The Riddler-while the card backs include joke-style text or "Bat Laffs" gags designed to make collectors smile. Blending comedy, pop-art flair, and television nostalgia, Bat Laffs remains one of the most recognizable and entertaining Batman trading card sets ever produced by Topps.
