Description

Janis Joplin/Big Brother & Holding Co. 1967 Continental Ballroom Concert Poster (AOR-2.342). An original first-printing San Francisco Bay-Area concert poster advertising Janis Joplin/BBHC along with the Charles Lloyd Quartet playing in Santa Clara, CA on Friday and Saturday nights, August 11 & 12, 1967. In addition, the Morning Glory opened up on Friday and Mt. Rushmore was the support band on Saturday.

A very pleasant change of pace with its light pastel colors and feminine touch (no poster artist is credited), this poster measures 13 3/4" x 19" and was graded to Near Mint condition, with just a light area of toning in the upper left margin area. From the Tim Backstrom Grateful Dead Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.233 (illus.).
