Description
Grateful Dead, Santana 1968 Palace of Fine Arts San Francisco Concert Poster (AOR-2.237). An original silver-foil San Francisco concert poster for many Bay Area acts playing in support of the Haight-Ashbury Free Medical Clinic as well as the Atheneum Arts Foundation. Held over four days, from Friday, August 30, 1968 through Monday, September 2, the event hosted such acts as the Grateful Dead, Santana, Big Mama Thornton, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Steve Miller, Kaleidoscope with David Lindley on guitar, Ace of Cups and the Ballet Afro-Haiti.The Dead played on the Sunday afternoon. During the evenings that weekend, they were playing the BG-134 "lion's head poster" concerts at the Fillmore.
The poster depicts the Palace of Fine Arts in the Marina district of San Francisco. It's an interesting combination of gold coloring laid down on top of the silver finish, not unlike the colorful Monterey Pop poster from the previous year. Measures 13 5/8" x 23 3/4" and grades to Very Good condition. Has creasing around the edges mostly, including a two-inch horizontal crease along the bottom edge off to the extreme right. There's a little bit of white color showing on the edges there, as well as in one or two other little edge places. Most would call this VG+. From the Tim Backstrom Grateful Dead Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
