Description

Grateful Dead, Magic Sam 1968 Torrance, CA Concert Poster Graded 9.4 (AOR-3.92). An original first-printing concert poster for the Grateful Dead, Magic Sam and Turnquist Remedy playing at The Bank in Torrance, California (in West L.A.) on Friday and Saturday nights, December 13 & 14, 1968. The short-lived nightclub was in danger of being shut down, so the poster appealed to patrons to show up in numbers and behave themselves.

Alas, the club - formerly known as The Blue Law - didn't last, and this was probably their last weekend of shows. No poster artist is credited, despite a lot of work going into the middle band of art; you can decide for yourself if Dead members are depicted.

Measures 15 3/4" x 22 5/8" and was given a very bankable 9.4 Near Mint grade by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.283 (illus.).
