Description

Grateful Dead 1967 "Busted" Fillmore Auditorium Benefit Poster Graded 9.0 (AOR-2.71). An original first-printing Fillmore Auditorium concert poster for the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Moby Grape performing on Wednesday, April 12, 1967. This specimen was printed before the show, in black and white. This was a benefit concert for the San Francisco Mime Troupe, whom promoter Bill Graham used to work for before he took over the Fillmore and started promoting concerts.

The poster is headlined "Busted," but it wasn't for drugs, it was for the Mime Troupe performing edgy, controversial material in Golden Gate Park without a permit, or so the authorities contended.

The Dead's debut album on Warner Bros. Records had been out for less than a month, and the Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow for a little over two months. This was also the month "Somebody to Love" entered Billboard's singles chart, to help set up the Summer of Love. Moby Grape's self-titled debut LP would be released the following month, and QMS had not been signed by a label yet. The concert's bill was rounded out by Andrew Staples (a five-piece band, not an individual) and the Loading Zone from Berkeley.

Measuring 22 ½" x 17 ½", this has been graded to 9.0 Very Fine/Near Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). From the Tim Backstrom Grateful Dead Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
