Nolan Miller Designed Masquerade Mask for a Costume Worn by Elizabeth Taylor. Ca. 1985; Ostrich feathers, mother-of-pearl, beads, sequins, mirrors, mesh, velveteen, wood dowel; Label: Nolan Miller; 17" wide, 39" high. This mask was designed by Nolan Miller for a costume for Elizabeth Taylor. The exuberant design on a black, sequined, mesh ground features a flurry of butterflies in painted mother-of-pearl set in gold foil. The butterflies are further adorned with faceted beads in white, iridescent, pink and purple. Rising from the butterflies at right is a plume in black ostrich feathers with applied round mirrors. The back of the mask is covered in black velveteen. The end of the handle is jeweled with a large black faceted jewel, white prong-set jewels, pink beads and a pearl. In Fine condition. There are missing beads on the mask and stick. Both wings of the butterfly on the upper left corner are cracked. From the Nolan Miller Collection.
