A John Wayne Caricature by Don Barclay from The Masquers Club, Circa 1950s. Rendered in pencil and watercolor on construction paper, depicting the Duke with a smile on his face, signed in the lower right corner "Don Barclay" [the comedic character actor who was also famous for being a talented cartoonist], mounted to cardboard with a handwritten annotation in blue ballpoint ink on the verso reading "John / Wayne / the Duke / #3 / l to r." (Please note in addition to being mounted, the top margin is slightly trimmed, likely due to how it was originally framed.)

PROVENANCE:
This piece, along with many other caricatures, hung in the famed Masquers Club at 1765 North Sycamore Avenue in Hollywood, California. Founded in the 1920s as the West Coast answer to the Lambs Club [America's first professional theatrical club based in NYC], the Masquers boasted membership of virtually every 'A List' Hollywood actor of the 20th century, including John Wayne. The current owner obtained this piece directly from the Sycamore clubhouse as it was being torn down in 1985 -- tragic.
