Description

James Brown 1973 Chicago, IL Boxing-Style Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, appearing at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday evening, November 10, 1973. This poster may have been a first-run prototype done by the printer, Tribune Press of Earl Park, Indiana, because it has production-like writing on it. And we've had other production samples like this from Tribune Press before.

Measures 14 1/8" x 22" and grades to Good condition. To further elaborate, this may have been a printer's proof because it has two corrections made in black pen and a further instruction written in red pen. Was once briefly bent in half, leaving a horizontal crease across "Brown" and his picture but not breaking any color. There's a 1 ¾" edge tear which goes into the yellow to the right of "Ovations." There is much black fingerprint smudging around the opening acts and especially the ticket information. Also a red one in the white margin. Further up, there's lighter black smudging to the upper left of James' photo and to the right of his first name. There are also narrow "toning strips" in three locations: The upper left edge vertically, the upper right edge horizontally, and the bottom edge on the left, horizontally. COA from Heritage Auctions.
