Description
Bobby "Blue" Bland, Buddy Ace 1957 Tour Blank Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising R&B singers Bobby "Blue" Bland and Buddy Ace touring in their earliest days. We can pinpoint this poster to the spring or summer of 1957 with relative ease, because they give us seven song titles to play with. The latest was "I Smell Trouble" at the very top, and the fact that it's in big letters indicates it was Bland's new release. "Trouble" came out on Duke Records in March 1957, so that pretty much nails the era of the poster.Buddy Ace's "Back Home" b/w "What Can I Do" was his very first single on Duke in July 1956. It all falls together very neatly.
What's funny is that Bland's career would take off immediately after this poster was printed. His very next single was "Farther Up the Road" from mid-summer '57, which went to #1 R&B, and Bobby would subsequently chart 62 more R&B singles during his long and admired career.
Measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. Three of the four corners are bumped, creased and rounded, with the lower right one branching out a little but not approaching print. The upper left corner has a three-inch vertical crease that runs along the edge. Surface indents in the form of little pinpricks in the yellow above "Buddy." There's a vertical surface crease in the bottom left which goes from the word "Top" down to the edge, and may have the beginnings of a tear visible on the verso. Browning around all four edges from age. COA from Heritage Auctions.
