Description

Frank Zappa, Reuben & the Jets Portland, OR Concert Poster. ERRATA: We first listed this poster as being from Seattle, WA, when in fact it's from Portland, OR. Both cities had a Paramount Northwest theater for concerts (using the same promoter) and often used an identical graphic design for their respective posters, but the giveaway is in the ticket-buying locations, and this one's from the southern city.

An original cardboard window card advertising Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention playing two shows at the Paramount Northwest theater in Portland, Oregon on Saturday evening, December 9, 1972. Opening act was Reuben & the Jets, a Los Angeles band produced by Zappa, led by Ruben Guevara and who named themselves after a previous Zappa album, Cruising with Ruben & the Jets.

One of the best-looking Frank Zappa concert posters of the era, this board uses striking Day-Glo green ink throughout, and presents the headshot of Frank twice, in different colors. It's very popular with collectors and a first-time Heritage offering.

Measures 14 3/8" x 22 3/8" and grades to Very Good condition. Board has multiple tack holes in each corner, the most being five in the lower right. There's a light, tiny punch hole in the middle left white area, by Zappa's hair, which is harmless and doesn't go all the way through the board. Some scuffing to the green around "Reuben & the Jets." Lower left corner has two-inch and one-inch diagonal creases. Light brown tape residue on lower right margin area under "Records." General overall toning. The poster's verso has four large tape lifts from where it was once mounted, and just a little bit of that in the lower right corner. Brown tape residue also appears in a few places. COA from Heritage Auctions.
