A "HOLY GRAIL" OF ROLLING STONES RECORD COLLECTING

The Rolling Stones A Special Radio Promotion Album LP Vinyl Record. (RSM-1, 1969). Vintage UK disc (RSM-1) in US sleeve (RSD-1), limited radio station 14-track compilation released in 1969. The present album is one of approx. 20 known 'personalized' copies of the album intended for known promotional contacts or giveaway prizes. Known original recipients of the album include BBC Radio One Chief Doug Muggeridge, and BBC Radio DJ John Peel. The reverse bearing autographs of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Mick Taylor, Bill Wyman, and Charlie Watts, making this album the rarest type of this already exclusive promo release. The circumstances of the signatures is an acknowledged and long-debated subject among Rolling Stones collectors, for example Charlie Watts' autograph believed to be in Bill Wyman's hand, or the full set to have been done on the Stones' behalf around December 1969. What remains clear is the "Special Radio Promotion" album, and especially this 'personalized' example, stands as a true "holy grail" of Rolling Stones record collecting. While both UK and US versions had covers printed in the US, only 200 copies are believed to have been pressed on the Decca label for UK promotion. US discs were pressed by London, but the exact number of copies is unknown. From their takes on "Route 66" and "Suzie Q", this album features the classics "Under My Thumb," "I'm Free," and "Sympathy for the Devil" - the only new track included was "Love in Vain" from their upcoming album Let It Bleed. The November 15, 1969 issue of Record Mirror magazine illustrated the album cover on the front page, with the tantalizing headline "this is the cover of a new Stones' album, but you can't buy it!". Exhibits wear along the sleeve edges and light foxing to the surface. The disc is in EX 7 condition. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: The November 15, 1969 issue of Record Mirror relating to the release championed the release as a "a new Stones' album, but you can't buy it!", highlighting its strictly limited release for radio stations and DJs.
