ALAN ALDRIDGE-DESIGNED PROOF AND MORE FOR THE PLANNED 1970s ALBUM RELEASE OF "ROCK N' ROLL CIRCUS"
The Rolling Stones Collection of (11) Rock N' Roll
Circus Color Printer's Proofs (ca. 1975). Collection
of (11) color printer's proofs relating to the unreleased 1975
album of the Rolling Stones' Rock N' Roll Circus, the 1968
concert spectacular which featured a legendary line-up including
the Who, John Lennon, Mitch Mitchell, Marianne Faithfull, and
Jethro Tull featuring Tony Iommi. Including (1) full color proof of
an unused sleeve design by Alan Aldridge, the poster artist
responsible for iconic designs including "Chelsea Girls," measuring
28.75" x 15.25" with color tab along the top margin. With light
handling including small tear visible to top edge; and (10)
printer's progressive proofs in multiple color variations of an
alternate design for the cover with color tabs along the left edge,
each measuring 15.75 " x 17.75", three marked "First Proof" by
Queens Lithographing Corporation, including one full color proof.
An exciting collection of production material relating to arguably
one of the most star-studded variety shows of the 20th century.
Literature: The Rolling Stones 50, 2012, p. 183 (album cover
full color proof illustrated). Each exhibits only light handling
wear, except for staple holes or marks to the tops. Comes with a
COA from Heritage Auctions.
