Description

ONE OF THE EARLIEST ITEMS OF ROLLING STONES-RELATED CLOTHING EVER TO BE OFFERED AT AUCTION

The Rolling Stones Brian Jones Owned and Worn Custom Jacket (ca. 1963). Vintage original charcoal gray wool jacket with double vent and matching lining, collar with black velvet face, buttons to the front and cuffs. The inside pocket with label reading ''John Stephen Custom Built Clothes For Men, 189, Regent Street London, W.1." Worn by Brian Jones in 1963 and 1964 before his fashion style become more flamboyant and psychedelic, featuring in images taken by the acclaimed photographer Terry O'Neill. Other appearances include on Decca publicity cards with Brian's fellow Stones; a band photoshoot at Andrew Loog Oldham's apartment block office in London, June 1964; the front cover of issue #31 of European magazine musik parade; and Rolling Stones magazine ads and postcards. This jacket is understood to be one of the earliest known articles of clothing worn by a member of the Rolling Stones to be offered at auction - an important survival intimately connected with the legendary Brian Jones. Provenance: The collection of Linda Lawrence, who was in a relationship with Brian Jones ca. 1963/64; Bonhams, August 15, 2010, Lot 155. Exhibited: Rolling Stones: 50 Years of Satisfaction, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum, 2013. Literature: Norman, P., The Life and Good Times of The Rolling Stones, 1989, back cover (illustrated); The Sunday Times News Review, August 2003. Exhibits very light wear from age and use. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
