Description
Quicksilver Messenger Service, The Cyrkle 1967 "Red Rubber Ball" Concert Poster. An original first-printing San Francisco Bay-Area concert poster advertising The Cyrkle, Quicksilver Messenger Service and the Blue House Basement performing in Santa Clara, CA on Saturday night, February 11, 1967. The headliners had not one but two hits under their belt by now: "Red Rubber Ball" - written by Paul Simon - had been a #2 national hit the year before, and its follow-up was the Top 20 single "Turn-Down Day." The Columbia Records group was managed by Brian Epstein (who would sadly pass away later this year) and actually received advice from John Lennon on how to spell their name unusually in order to get attention. The red, white & blue artwork by Cannon informs that tickets were $2 and the show ran from 8:30 until 12:30. Another highly unusual aspect of this particular poster is that down along the bottom it says, "POSTERS AVAILABLE" with several locations given. By 1967, some small promoters were probably emulating what Graham and Helms were doing in the big city - selling their extra concert posters as a small revenue stream on the side.
Measures 14 1/4" x 20" and grades to Near Mint condition with only a tiny toning line along the very bottom of the verso. From the KC Murphy Bindweed Press Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
