Star Wars VHS 1983 - VGA 85+ NM+, 20th Century Fox Video Drawer Box, Flatback, Rear White CBS Fox Watermarks. Early drawer box copies of Star Wars are unbelievably scarce. Currently there are less than five known sealed copies of the 1982 20th Century Fox Video version and less than five of the 1983 CBS Fox Video version known to exist. At this moment there are only two known copies of this Version 1 1983 CBS Fox Video drawer box, making this VGA rated 85+ NM+ copy a true grail for collectors. This gorgeous copy has bold vertical CBS Fox Video watermarks running down the rear of the seal, which has received a subgrade of 85, as has the box.
Originally marketed as "the story of a boy, a girl and a universe. It's an epic of heroes and villains and aliens of a thousand worlds... Star Wars! A billion years in the making!" It seems silly to imagine it today, but director George Lucas didn't think Star Wars would be a success; on the contrary, he believed it would be a massive failure. A despondent Lucas decided not to attend the premiere of his movie and instead went on vacation with his good friend Steven Spielberg. During this vacation, the two came up with the idea for another classic, Raiders of the Lost Ark! We sure are happy that Lucas was wrong about Star Wars. The film was the seed to what would become an empire thanks to its films, multiple TV series, books, video games and comics, making Star Wars one of the biggest movie franchises of all time.
