Description

Zulu Dawn (Lamitas, 1979), Peter O'Toole "Lord Chelmsford" Military Coat. Original military uniform coat constructed from dark blue and black wool with short-standing black velvet collar embellished with resin gold-toned military pins, grosgrain trim, decorative black braid, decorative bars on the chest, and black knit-ribbon decoration. The jacket closes in the front with hook-and-eye closures. Includes interior "Peter O'Toole" bias label. Worn by Lord Chelmsford (Peter O'Toole) in the 1979 epic, Zulu Dawn. O'Toole's aristocratic general was based on the real Baron Chelmsford, who in 1879 was a key figure in the Battle of Ulundi during the Anglo-Zulu War. The style of jacket can be seen during the lavish gala scene before the film's climactic battle. Exhibits production wear, aging and stains to inside lining consistent with age and outdoor use, minor breaches or holes to the fabric including the sleeves, back, and below the collar. Bias label inscription faded but legible. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
