Description

BG-115 Janis Joplin, Iron Butterfly, Booker T. 1968 S.F. Concert Poster Graded 9.8. First-and-only printing San Francisco concert poster for Big Brother & the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, Iron Butterfly and Booker T. & the MG's playing at both the Fillmore Auditorium and Winterland over the span of Thursday-Saturday, April 11-13, 1968. Known as BG-115 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this poster was graded a tough-to-beat 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company).

This interesting design features the five members of Big Brother in a circle, all smiling, with luckily Janis right up top. And it's always nice to get three legendary acts on one poster with no filler. Iron Butterfly were right on the cusp of releasing their landmark album (and single) In-a-Gadda-da-Vida, which would soon boost them to headliner status. And Booker T. & the MG's had scored a big hit six years prior with "Green Onions," and would finally get two more in the following 12 months: "Hang 'Em High" and "Time Is Tight." This is in addition to being part of the Stax/Volt house band that played on hundreds of recordings by Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave and sundry others. The rock musicians bowed down to them. Measures about 14" x 21" and grades to 9.8 Near Mint/Mint. COA from Heritage Auctions.
