Description
Jackie Wilson, Etta James 1959 Regal Theater Chicago, IL Jumbo Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising the great Jackie Wilson as a second-billed act but with a very cool photo of the singer, and fellow Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famer Etta James further down the bill. What's terrific about this rare poster is that it's from the late 1950's, when Jackie and Etta were just getting going, but Jackie had already cracked the national Top 10 pop charts with "Lonely Teardrops."The weeks' worth of shows at the second city's famous Regal commenced on Friday, May 8, 1959. The whole affair was headlined by the "Sensational, All-New Al Benson Revue - Cool, Hot and Lowdown." Measures 22 1/8" x 28" and grades to a strong Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: This remains the only specimen of this poster that Heritage has ever seen. This exact poster was sold by us back in July 2022, and that buyer has decided to consign much of his collection to Heritage here in spring 2024.
Condition details: The upper right corner has a 3 ¾" diagonal crease which does lightly break the blue color in the "AY" of "Play!" There's another 1 ½" diagonal crease inside of that one, which catches the very last (single) quote mark but doesn't break the blue. That corner tip is also pretty ruffled there. The lower left corner has an invisible 1 ½" surface crease in the white only, under the blue arrow. Not far above that, two other mild surface creases are mostly in the white but hit the "H" in "The" and the first "S" in "Star." There are more barely-there surface creases in the white above and below the "SON" in "Benson." A little blue-ink smearing to the right of the "In Person!" box is considered a printer's flaw and not damage.
