Description

Shirley & Lee, The 5 Satins & Others 1958 Jumbo Day-Glo Globe Concert Poster. An original jumbo cardboard window card advertising half-a-dozen R&B acts playing in Silver Spring, Maryland on Saturday night, November 29, 1958. The talent line-up was led by Shirley & Lee, with their big #1 R&B hit "Let the Good Times Roll" plugged under their name, and Fred Parris and the 5 Satins, with their signature song "In the Still of the Nite" also under their name. (Fred Parris was the group leader, lead singer and composer of "Nite.")

And we can't forget the third-billed Heartbeats, whose "A Thousand Miles Away" was also a Top 5 R&B hit. Brilliant Day-Glo colors from Globe. Measures 22" x 28" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: This board has a fair amount of information not normally found on old concert posters. It's obviously a college dance, with "Sigma Phi Fraternity Tau Chapter" across the very top. It's also unusual to have "November Dance" in such huge letters and the actual date so small, but we're sure everyone saw what they needed.

Although it's an old college expression, you hardly ever see "Stag" and "Drag" on a vintage window card to discern between singles and couples. Raffles were included, and "Semi-Formal" was the requested dress.

At the bottom it explains that this was a benefit for Multiple Sclerosis. They then spend two lines telling attendees exactly how to drive to the venue, the Indian Spring Country Club. Unusual, charming and very 1950's.

Condition details: There's light brown water staining found in several of the margins, such as the upper left corner area where it goes into "Sigma," the "N" and the "A" of "Admission." Notice how it skirts everything and stays in the margin in the upper right and lower left areas. There are also tiny bump-creases to the four corners, a few light surface blemishes and general toning throughout.
