Description

Parliaments, Mary Wells 1968 Detroit, MI "Emancipation" Jumbo Globe Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising a clutch of R&B, soul and funk stars performing at Detroit's well-known Cobo Arena on Saturday night, August 3, 1968. Many fun musicians, up-and-comers, hit song titles and of course Globe's trademark Day-Glo colors make this a standout concert poster, not to mention its height of almost three feet.

You gotta love that top line which lists Erma Franklin's (Aretha's sister) original recording of "Piece of My Heart" as well as erstwhile Motown queen Mary Wells' early classic "My Guy." Future superstar George Clinton's Parliaments lead off the second row, and things are off and running. Measures 21 3/4" x 35 1/4" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: This remains the only specimen of this poster that Heritage has ever seen. This exact poster was sold by us back in July 2022, and that buyer has decided to consign much of his collection to Heritage here in spring 2024.

Condition details: Poster had a few damage issues but they've been disappeared by Chameleon Restoration. What remains are just a few very slight surface creases, but barely there in the scheme of things... this is now a very solid, robust board with only some light surface grime at the bottom and the usual toning.

Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
