Description

Janis Joplin/Big Brother 1968 FE-1 Fillmore East Opening Concert Postcard Graded 5.5 (AOR-2.99). An original advertising postcard/handbill for the very first show at Bill Graham's Fillmore East auditorium, starring Janis Joplin with Big Brother and the Holding Company, Tim Buckley and Albert King. Linda Eastman, the future Mrs. Paul McCartney, is credited with the photography, right under the smiling Janis. A terrifically fun graphic created by Charles Brandwynn. New Yorkers apparently didn't save things like their West Coast counterparts, because anything tied to this opening night is extremely rare... this postcard is the first anything FE-1 that Heritage has ever offered. Measures 5 3/4" x 4" and has been graded 5.5 Fine Minus by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock - Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.159 (illus.).
