SECOND PRINTINGS, DONE IN 1966, ARE COMING ON STRONG

FD-26 Grateful Dead 1966 "Skeleton & Roses" Second-Printing Avalon Ballroom Concert Poster Graded 9.4. An official Family Dog second printing of the revered Grateful Dead "Skeleton & Roses" FD-26 San Francisco concert poster. This is a totally vintage print, done in the Fall of '66. It had been designed that summer to advertise two nights of concerts on Friday and Saturday, September 16 & 17, 1966 at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco.

Please see our two previous lots, for the first printings of this poster, to gather all the details about its colorful history and reputation. These second printings are gaining ground all the time; last auction, in July, we sold a second printing in an 8.5 grade for $5,625. And this one is three steps better than that.

The Bindweed Press in S.F. was the printer, and Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley were the designers. And the collecting public just never, ever seems to lose its enthusiasm for this piece. This specimen has been graded to 9.4 Near Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). Measures 14 1/4" x 20". COA from Heritage Auctions.
