Description
Janis Joplin, James Cotton Blues Band 1969 Wichita, KS Concert Poster. An original first-printing concert poster, made on orange paper with metallic blue-grey inks, for Janis Joplin & Her Band appearing in a "Concert in the Round" at the Henry Levitt Arena located at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas on Friday night, October 24, 1969.Janis is depicted in no less than four photographs on the poster, even substituting for the "i" in her name at the top. And then how can you beat that dreamy gaze into the camera in the poster's biggest photo? Maybe with that cool shot of her singing at the microphone? Or are they all topped by the famous picture of her with that mischievous smile from the Cheap Thrills album sleeve? A beautiful, standout piece that was used for only two of her shows, this and Oklahoma City the night after. Measures 17 1/2'' x 22 1/8" and grades to Very Good condition. From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: A "concert in the round," the poster announces. "Friday, October 24," in the year of 1969, her only full year of touring solo. "8:00 PM in the Henry Levitt Arena." Ticket prices are then given, and written in where they were sold: at Shady Daze, with its address. A Johnny Dark Production, with poster art by R. McIntosh and B.G. Vesper.
Condition details: Poster has light handling creases spread out all over the poster, none of them causing any damage or breaking the color. The prominent one we see comes down from the top center edge and into the "U" of "Productions" without touching any color; all the rest are much less than that. Poster has a grand total of just one tiny pinhole, just to the right of the previously mentioned crease. The right edge down at the bottom has a tiny bit of ruffling, mentioned only for full disclosure.
