Description

The Doors / Jim Morrison 1969 Sacramento, CA College Poetry-Reading Performance Poster. An original B&W paper advertising poster for a poetry "Reading and Show" at Sacramento State College in California's state capitol on Thursday evening, May 1, 1969. Doors singer Jim Morrison, his close friend beat poet Michael McClure and Donald R. Wagner are highlighted on the poster, and it was on this date that Morrison gave his first public reading of "An American Prayer," his best-known poem.

A total of four cats are shown on the poster, an artistic statement unto itself, we suppose. Each has a name in very tiny letters on their fur. The high-wire kitty is Kitaj (found on its left leg), and the other three from left-to-right are Sven, Svet and Artaud. On the back of the far-right cat, the poster artist gave their credit as "Vates 69."

This first-ever Heritage offering measures 16 1/4" x 21 3/4" and grades to Near Mint Minus condition. From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Poster has just some very, very mild handling creasing along the right edge for a few inches, visible mostly on the verso when you look for it.
