Description

Cream w/Eric Clapton 1968 Final U.S. Show Concert Poster (AOR-4.226). An original paper advertising poster for Cream's final U.S. show of the 60's, taking place at the Rhode Island Auditorium in the state's capitol city of Providence on Monday night, November 4, 1968. This was it... Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker hanging up their cleats before heading back to their native England for a couple of farewell shows. This poster certainly makes no bones about it... most "last show" posters don't know it at the time, such as the Beatles' Candlestick Park. But this one shouts it from the rooftops. Measures 11" x 15 5/8" and grades to Near Mint condition. From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.405 (illus.).

More Information: Designed by Mad Peck Studios, this poster features a cute drawing of a camel happily hauling heavy cream on its back in a middle-eastern desert setting. The whole thing was cleverly designed to mimic a Camel cigarettes pack of the day. This would include the blue seal at the top center, "Cream" in the same type font as "Camel" was, even the three bottom lines of information in the same type font that the cigarette packs had, and the same brown arches framing the artwork.

Condition details: There's a tiny ¼" diagonal crease in the lower right corner. On the poster's verso, there are four little tape pieces or residue, 3D to the touch. In the upper right corner area of the verso, there are also some dots of blemishing.
